Founding Organization
SOUTHWEST FLORIDA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION
The Southwest Florida Community Foundation was formed in 1976 with $500 from First National Bank of Fort Myers by a small, dedicated group of attorneys, trust officers and community leaders who had the vision and foresight to plan for the future needs of our rapidly growing community.
For more than 30 years, the Southwest Florida Community Foundation has been supporting the communities of Lee, Charlotte, Collier, Glades and Hendry through endowed funds. With assets of more than $57 million and 320 endowed funds, the community foundation has provided more than $30 million in grants and scholarships to the communities it serves.
The Southwest Florida Community Foundation has obtained National Standards Compliance status through the Council on Foundations, a national membership organization of more than 2,000 grantmaking foundations and giving programs worldwide.
The Southwest Florida Community Foundation is the founding organization for its divisions: the Bonita Springs Community Foundation and the Good Neighbor Community Foundation of Sanibel-Captiva.
